Lydia Perovic grew up in Montenegro, graduated at the Belgrade University in Politics and Social Sciences during the all-too-eventful 1990s, then received her MA in Political Science/Theory at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia in 2001. She emigrated to Canada in 1999, and has been living in Toronto since 2005.
